Dilip Kumar Agarwala, Managing Director (MD) of Diamond World, the country's top gold and diamond smuggler, has been arrested.
On Tuesday (September 3), he was arrested in a three-hour raid from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am in the capital's Gulshan. A team of the police's elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted the operation and arrested him.
RAB-1 captain Lt. Colonel Zahid Karim told Bangladesh Pratidin that we have arrested him. He will be handed over to the police station.
According to RAB, there are numerous charges against Dilip Agarwala ranging from gold and diamond smuggling, money laundering abroad. Agarwala has also been made an accused along with Sheikh Hasina in the case filed on the charge of killing students in the anti-discrimination student movement.
It is known that RAB conducted this operation after confirming that Dilip Agarwala is staying at Diamond World of Akash Tower in Gulshan. At 10:00 PM, four RAB vehicles first arrived in front of Diamond World and took position. Meanwhile, the collapsible gate under Diamond World was locked.
At 11 pm, four more cars stopped in front of the building. Then RAB members surrounded the entire building. The 20-storey building has a total of 6 floors, including the ground floor, with showrooms and offices of Diamond World. RAB members searched all the floors. He was found around 1 am. RAB caught gold smuggler Dilip Kumar Agarwala.
