Modi government is sending additional 2000 policemen to Manipur

The Modi government has decided to send two more battalions of central forces to the violence-ridden eastern state of Manipur.

CRPF has about 2000 members in two battalions.

Local media reported the information in PTI. It said that Battalion No. 58 is being sent from Warangal in Telangana and Battalion No. 112 from Latehar in Jharkhand. The first unit will be based at Kangbhai (Churachandpur) in Manipur and the second around Imphal.

The central government took this step after two battalions of the Assam Rifles were withdrawn from Manipur to take up operational duties in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the Northeast.

According to the directives of the Indian Home Ministry, all the companies of the two new units (about 6 each) will be based in different parts of the conflict-affected state.

Since May last year, more than 200 people have lost their lives in communal clashes in Manipur till the report was written. Among them, at least 11 people have been killed in the last 10 days.

16 battalions of CRPF were already deployed in the state due to this ethnic conflict. They are said to have established operational bases in Imphal West, Imphal East, Churachandpur, Noni, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Bishnupur in the last week.

Before the conflict, 10 to 11 CRPF battalions were usually deployed in Manipur. But this time due to intense violence, it stands at 18. That is, the Modi government is going to almost double the number of Central Force personnel deployed in Manipur. Source: The Print, PTI
