Shakib retires from T20, will also leave Tests soon

Shakib Al Hasan announced his retirement from 20-over cricket before the T20 series against India. He will also retire from white-clothes cricket with the Mirpur Test against South Africa at home.

The former Bangladesh captain confirmed the matter at a press conference before the Kanpur Test on Thursday.

Shakib Al Hasan said, "I have played the last T20 match. I want to retire from Test cricket after the Mirpur Test against South Africa.

Today Shakib was asked about the South Africa Test at home in October. In response to that question, Shakib said about saying goodbye to Test cricket, 'Look, so far I am available. As there are many situations in the country, everything is definitely not up to me. I have discussed this with BCB. They have been told what my plan is. I felt this series and the home series would be my last series, specially in Test cricket.

Saying that he had spoken with the board president Farooq Ahmed, Shakib added, "This is how I spoke with Farooq bhai and with the selectors. If there is a chance, if I go to the country, play, then the Mirpur Test will be the last for me. That has been said to everyone on the board. They are trying to organize in a beautiful way.

Before returning to the country, Shakib is also concerned about the security risk, 'I should be able to go and play and feel safe. When it is necessary to come out of the country, I should not have any problem to come out of the country. The board is taking note. Those involved with the issues are watching. They might give me a decision, based on which I can go to the country and play very well, at least I can leave the Test format.''
