Today is the birthday of ATM Shamsuzzaman

Photo: Collected. At one time actor ATM Shamsuzzaman occupied an exclusive place in Bengali movies and dramas in all the roles of khal, positive or comedy.

He has not only acted but also written screenplays and left his mark in the literary arena. Today is the birthday of this multi-talented legend on Sunday (September 10).

ATM Shamsuzzaman was born on September 10, 1941, in Daulatpur, Noakhali, in a family of two. The full name of Nandit is Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman. I wanted to be a writer. But while writing, he accidentally got involved in acting. And this world gave him popularity. He was in this world for almost six decades. He has sometimes made the audience laugh, sometimes amused, sometimes scared again by being a villain. This powerful actor has proved his skills in all roles.

However, ATM Shamsuzzaman made his film debut as an actor in 1965. In 1976, he made his debut as a villain in Amjad Hossain's movie 'Nayanmani'. Apart from movies, he has acted in numerous dramas and serials.

The Ekushey Padak awardee is the actor's only directorial film 'Ebadat'. ATM Shamsuzzaman received the National Film Award five times in his lifetime. He received awards in two categories for Kazi Hayat's movie Daee Ke. After that, he won the same award for his performance in the movies 'Churiwala', 'Mann Bose Na Praka Tabile' and 'Chorabali'.

Unique ATM in TV drama too. He acted in many serials and one-act plays. Some of the timeless dramas are 'Ranger Manoos', 'Bhaber Hat', 'Ghar Kutum', 'Noashal', 'Sheel Bari', etc.

ATM Shamsuzzaman passed away on February 20, 2021, at his residence in Debendranath Das Lane, Sutrapur, Dhaka. He was suffering from various ailments related to old age for a long time. His body was buried next to his elder son Kamruzzaman Kabir in Jurain Cemetery.
