Bangladesh will hold its head high with India to get its share of water: Asif

Rural Development and Cooperatives and Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan said that the interim government has stood tall in terms of foreign policy. Bangladesh will hold its head high with India in terms of implementing the Teesta Agreement and getting its share of water.

He said these things at a public hearing titled 'What to do about the Teesta River' at the Teesta Rail Bridge area in Kaunia, Rangpur on Sunday afternoon.

Advisor Asif Mahmud said, how are you? I won't ask, I know you are not well. Wherever I have gone in North Bengal, everyone has one demand - 'We don't want relief, we want water in the Teesta.' He said that the Teesta Master Plan will be finalized during the interim government.

He said that the Local Government Ministry will make arrangements to build educational institutions in the Teesta chars in proportion to the population. The construction of cold storages at various places to preserve agricultural products of North Bengal was mentioned. He also said that sugar mills are being started for the development of agricultural industry.

Asif Mahmud said that a survey has been done for a 1400-meter bridge over the Teesta from Pirgachha to Chilmari to increase the economic prosperity, and he expressed hope that it will be inaugurated during this government's tenure. He mentioned that special allocation has already been announced for upazila-based modern libraries and development work to increase the education rate.
