Nixon Chowdhury's family accounts contain Tk 3,162 crore

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of transactions worth Tk 3,162 crore in the bank accounts of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's close relative and former parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon and his wife Tarin Hossain, who fled the country after being deposed.

This information was given at a press conference held at the ACC office in Segunbagicha in the capital on Thursday.

At the press conference, ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhter Hossain said that our investigation team has found information about bank transactions worth Tk 3,162 crore of former MP Nixon Chowdhury and his wife. We have also found information about the acquisition of Tk 192.9 million in known unearned income in their names.

Akhter Hossain said, "Former MP from Faridpur-4 constituency Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, while serving as a member of parliament, has abused his power and acquired known undeclared assets worth Tk 112,362,435 through various irregularities and corruption. He has made a total of 1,402,518,591 taka of unusual transactions, including deposits of Tk 7,159,417,408 and withdrawals of Tk 6,866,577,183, using 55 bank accounts of various institutions.

The ACC director also said that Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury's wife Tarin Hossain has acquired known undeclared assets worth Tk 8,592,708 with the direct cooperation of her husband. At the same time, he made a total of 1,760 crore 34 lakh 51 thousand 320 taka of unusual transactions, including deposits of 881 crore 55 lakh 42 thousand 550 taka and withdrawals of 878 crore 79 lakh 8 thousand 770 taka, using 17 bank accounts of various institutions.
