895 kg of hilsa was being smuggled into India

BGB has seized 895 kg of hilsa fish while being smuggled into India through Comilla's Burichong and Sunamganj's Doarabazar borders. Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB headquarters, gave this information in a press release on Wednesday (September 11) night.

According to BGB, the captain of BGB's Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) on Wednesday afternoon. Colonel AM Jaber bin Jabbar, based on the information provided by the civil source, learned that a consignment of hilsa was hidden in the forest in the hills for smuggling to India through Anandpur area bordering Burichong Upazila of Comilla, in charge of the battalion. The source also said that the shipment of hilsa will be smuggled to India at night.

In this context, Habildar of Kharera BOP under this battalion. A special team of BGB under the leadership of Masudur Rahman conducted a special search operation in the hills of North Anandpur hill around 1:30 pm. In the operation, the BGB patrol searched the entire dune and seized 620 kg of hilsa fish filled with 31 boxes. The estimated market value of seized hilsa is Tk 9 lakh and ninety two thousand.

On the other hand, on Tuesday morning, BGB's Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) captain Lt. Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman came to know on the basis of intelligence that a shipment of hilsa was being smuggled to India through the Banglabazar border of Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj under the responsibility of this battalion.

In this context, a BGB patrol under the leadership of Subedar Abul Bashar of Banglabazar BOP under this battalion conducted an operation at a place called Ghilatali on the responsible border. At one stage of the operation, when the smugglers left the hilsa fish in the border area and escaped, the BGB members seized the fish. The weight of seized hilsa is 275 kg and the current market value is about 5 lakh 50 thousand taka.
