Colombia revenge by tasting defeat to Argentina

A gap of less than two months. Argentina in front of Colombia once again. Lautaro Martínez's goal in the Copa America final saw the Albiceleste lose to Colombia. But this time nothing happened. James Rodríguez has rightly brought out the win. The hosts beat Lionel Scaloni's side 2–1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Barranquilla.

This is the first loss for Argentina this year. The last time they lost was in November last year. Along with this, Argentina's undefeated record against Colombia for 5 years after the 2019 Copa America has also been broken today. This loss stopped the unbeaten journey of 12 consecutive matches of the world champions.

At the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez, Yerson Mosquera was delighted by the 47,000 crowd in the 25th minute of the match today. From the corner, Rodriguez gave and took with John Arias without sending the ball into the tangle of the box. Then a measured cross from the left end towards the Mosquera. This defender did not miss such an easy opportunity.

Both teams go to break with this goal. However, the world champions equalized at the beginning of the second half. In the 48th minute, Nicolas Gonzalez got the ball after Rodríguez's wrong pass. Then Gonzalez scored the goal by avoiding the Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas.

After 12 minutes, Rodriguez put Colombia ahead with a goal from the penalty spot. However, there was an argument between the players of the two teams about Colombia getting this penalty. The hosts got a penalty when Nicolas Otamendi tackled Daniel Munoz in their own box. James Rodriguez scored from the VAR penalty.
