A court has granted a 7-day remand to Akash Mandal Prakash alias Irfan, who was arrested for killing 7 staff of MV Al Bakhera in Meghna, Chandpur.
On Wednesday, the investigation officer of the case applied for a 10-day remand in the Judicial Magistrate Court of Chandpur, and the court granted a 7-day remand after the hearing.
The government lawyers said that the investigation officer applied for a 10-day remand to the court to interrogate the accused to investigate the real reason for the killing of 7 people at once and whether anyone else was involved in this incident. The court granted a 7-day remand.
On the afternoon of December 23, a total of 8 staff of the cargo ship MV Al Bakhera, loaded with fertilizer, were rescued from the Meghna River in Haimchar in Chandpur, in a bloody state.
Of these, 7 were found dead and 1 was found in a dying state by the Coast Guard and Naval Police.
Meanwhile, a day after the incident, Md. Kalam, in-charge of Harina Ferry Ghat outpost of the Naval Police in Chandpur, filed a case with Haimchar Police Station against unknown persons. In the meantime, after collecting information, RAB-11 Comilla captain Major Shakib Hossain led by him arrested Akash Mondal alias Irfan (30) from Chitalmari, Bagerhat.
He is the son of Jagdish Mondal of Fakirhat in the same district. Irfan was the ship's skipper.
It is mentioned that on December 22 at 8 am, the ship was going to Baghabari, Sirajganj, after loading urea fertilizer from the jetty of Kafco Fertilizer Factory in Chittagong.
