On the afternoon of December 23, a total of 8 staff of the cargo ship MV Al Bakhera, loaded with fertilizer, were rescued from the Meghna River in Haimchar in Chandpur, in a bloody state.
Of these, 7 were found dead and 1 was found in a dying state by the Coast Guard and Naval Police.
Meanwhile, a day after the incident, Md. Kalam, in-charge of Harina Ferry Ghat outpost of the Naval Police in Chandpur, filed a case with Haimchar Police Station against unknown persons. He is the son of Jagdish Mondal of Fakirhat in the same district. Irfan was the ship's skipper.
