"The United States supports the people of Bangladesh and their desire for democracy, freedom of peaceful assembly, and freedom of expression," the statement said. The United States noted that the Awami League won the majority of seats in the parliamentary elections held on January 7, 2024. The United States agrees with other observers that these elections were not free or fair, and we are disappointed that all parties did not participate in these elections."

The statement added, "The United States condemns the violence that occurred during the election and in the months leading up to it." We encourage the government of Bangladesh to conduct an adequate investigation into these acts of violence and hold those responsible accountable. We also call upon all political parties to refrain from violence.”
The US State Department said in the statement, "The United States will work with Bangladesh to establish a free and open Indo-Pacific (Indo-Pacific) region, continue to support the protection of human rights and civil society in Bangladesh, and develop people-to-people and economic relations between the two countries." Committed to working in partnership.”
