Police have arrested Chhatra League leader Abul Hasan, accused of attacking Khaleda Zia's motorcade. Hasan is the senior vice-president of Tejgaon Police Station. He was arrested from the capital's Monipuripara area on Friday.
Tejgaon Police Station OC Shamimur Rahman told Amar Desh that Abul Hasan was arrested after receiving information from local sources. Chhatra League leader Hasan is the accused in the case filed in the attack on former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's motorcade. In addition, there is a case against him in the attack on protesters during the July-August revolution.
It is learned that on April 20, 2015, armed terrorists from Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League attacked Khaleda Zia's motorcade with the intention of killing her while she was participating in the election campaign of BNP-backed mayoral candidate Tabith Awal of Dhaka North City Corporation in the Karwan Bazar area. Khaleda Zia survived the incident, but her car was severely damaged. Several BNP leaders and activists at various levels and some of Khaleda Zia's personal security guards were seriously injured in the attack. The fascist Hasina government has not investigated the heinous attack for almost 10 years. BNP has repeatedly complained that the investigation into the attack has gone into cold storage on the orders of the government.
Meanwhile, in another operation yesterday, one of the top extortionists and terrorists in the Karwan Bazar area, Md. Russell Mia, alias Russell Ahmed, was arrested.
The OC of Tejgaon Police Station said that Russell and his gang were carrying out extortion and terrorist activities in Karwan Bazar and surrounding areas. There are four cases against him in Tejgaon Police Station.
