Remanded army officer Ziaul Ahsan revealed the name of Tariq Ahmed Siddique during interrogation by detectives. He said that all orders came to him from former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's security adviser and close relative Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique.
The released Major General Ziaul Ahsan, who was on remand for eight days, was interrogated in the intelligence department. He was arrested last Thursday night in the murder case of Hawker Shahjahan in Newmarket area during the anti-discrimination student movement. Hawker Shahjahan was arrested in the murder case, but there are allegations against him of murder, disappearance and tapping the phones of many people. Intelligence sources said that he is being interrogated mainly on these issues.
Ziaul Ahsan, who has been discussed and criticized for almost 15 years, was commissioned in the Bangladesh Army in 1991. He was a trained commando and paratrooper in the army. Apart from this, he served in the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for a long time. On March 5, 2009, he joined the RAB as a deputy captain. This former army officer was serving as Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) since 2022. Sources related to the investigation said that during the previous Awami League government, most heinous crimes like disappearances were committed to suppress dissent and opposition political parties. Disappearances range from political adversaries to business adversaries. Ziaul Ahsan told the detectives that Sheikh Hasina's adviser Tariq Siddique is involved in these disappearances and secret murders. Sources said that although NTMC was under the home ministry, it was controlled by Tariq Siddique. The activities of NTMC were going on at his behest.
According to sources, Ziaul Ahsan was appointed as Deputy Chief of RAB after Awami League came to power. The international media also published news about the disappearance-murder allegations by Tariq Siddique and Ziaul Ahsan at various times. In fact, Sheikh Hasina's relative and security adviser Tariq Siddique is the main controller of the disappearances and secret killings in the country.
Related sources say that Ziaul Ahsan has been accused of missing, murdering and extrajudicial killings of many people. Basically, the disappearances on a large scale started at his hands. It started after 1/11 when the Awami League government came to power. At that time, numerous persons including anti-Awami League government, opposition political parties, individuals, anti-government critics were victims of disappearance. At that time, the media of the country often published news that various people had gone missing. The families of the victims could not find their missing relatives even after protesting at the police station, DB and RAB offices. When Ziaul Ahsan was questioned about these issues, he clarified that Tariq Siddique is behind these incidents. Sources said, Ziaul Ahsan has been accused of creating a secret detention center 'mirror' and taking people of different opinions and detaining them for years. Those who criticized the Awami League government negatively and those whose comments and actions were threatening to the government were picked up and imprisoned in the mirror room. Inhuman torture was done. A couple of years ago, through a report, the matter of the mirror became known. A person who was freed from there gave his description to the foreign media. Since then, the family members of the missing and disappeared people in the country have turned their attention to the mirror or the secret detention center. After Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and fled the country on August 5, three prisoners were released in the face of demands from many relatives. Among them is United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) leader Michael Chakma. He went missing on April 9, 2019. He was discharged on August 7. Former army officer Brigadier General (dismissed) Abdullahil Aman Azmi and Supreme Court lawyer Ahmad bin Kasem (Arman) returned home after being released earlier. Ahmad Bin Kasem went missing from Mirpur DOHS on 9 August 2016 and Abdullahil Aman Azmi a few days later on 23 August. Although they have been released from the mirror, the families of other missing persons are still waiting for the return of their missing and missing relatives. Many have given up hope of returning and are now awaiting trial. They assumed that their missing relatives were no longer alive. They were picked up and killed.
Sources said that former army officer Ziaul was serving as Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) since 2022. He leaked call records one after another while in charge of NTMC. Touchy call records of people from politicians to threats to the Awami League government were circulated on various social media platforms on his orders. While he was in charge of MTMC, the capacity of this government agency was enhanced. Using this ability, the mobile phones of various important people were hacked on his instructions. After that the call records of those important people were collected and spread on social media. Based on these call records, from political figures to many civil society people, pressure was created through intelligence agencies in various ways.
