We also celebrate Durgo Festival, Bangladeshis will eat hilsa not India

Hilsa fish will not be sent to India on the occasion of the upcoming Durgo Festival, said Farida Akhtar, Advisor on Fisheries and Livestock of the Interim Government. He said, "It will be ensured that Hindus and other citizens of Bangladesh can eat hilsa during this Durgo Festival." The people of the country will be given priority over India.

He said these things in an interview given to Indian media News-18 on Friday (September 13).

Farida Akhtar said, 'We also celebrate Durgotsavam. Our people will also enjoy (eat) it. We apologize, but we cannot ship any hilsa to India. It is an expensive fish.

We have seen that people of our country cannot eat hilsa. Because, all are sent to India. Those that remain, they have to be eaten at a high price.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used to send 4 thousand tons of hilsa to India during Durga Puja, the fisheries advisor criticized this initiative saying, "There was no need to send fish to India."

It was not right to send his fish because of good relations with India. He ignored the needs of the people of Bangladesh.

He also said, 'India does not need to create any issue about Hilsa. If they want good relations with Bangladesh, then they should resolve the issue of Teesta water sharing.'
